Organisers of the Isle of Wight Festival have apologised to disabled music fans after they raised safety concerns when non disabled fans clambered into the section designed to safely seat them.

Disabled fans were positioned on a platform to the left of the stage, and were shocked to discover drunken revellers climbing over the barriers and into the section in order to leave the venue after acts, compromising the safety of the disabled fans who were sitting there.

Several people featured in the ITV report say they were hurt, with one saying she was kicked, while another had to lift up a folding chair and use it to push away people who were encroaching on her space.

Organisers became aware of the issue and issued more security, with one telling ITV: “We sent extra security out there because the disabled people deserve better protection…we’re sorry if we caused any problems with it.”
