The Scottish Government has published its Transport (Scotland) Bill and included are a range of measures to improve transport across the nation.

Most importantly it includes a ban on pavement parking. An issue that affects elderly and disabled people on a daily basis across the whole of the UK. Wheelchair users, people with visual impairments, anyone with a mobility issue, parents of disabled children and many others have all at some point had to tackle the challenge of pavement parking, which can force people onto busy roads and can pose a danger to their lives.

The first issue of UNITE featured an article titled ‘Reclaim the Pavement’ which you can read by clicking here

Double parking has also been banned and local councils will be given the power to tackle these issues.

Other measures coming into play include Low Emission Zones in Scottish cities, an improved bus service and a smart ticketing system across the country.
